Miniature trains were part of Riverview during its entire operation. In 1904, the miniature locomotives, modeled after the famous 999, were made by the Cagney Company, which had been making miniature trains since 1892. Pictured is a group from a Catholic Church and/or school. Note the nuns to the left of the picture seated on the train. The trains burned coal or coke and ran on 14 to 24 gauge tracks. By 1908 trains traversed Riverview. One ran near the main walk and the other chugged by the river. The sound of the engine, the clang of the bell, and the smell of the smoke coming out of the smokestack made every child on the train feel grown up. (Courtesy of Schmidt Collection.)
